A middle school student brought a BB gun to his school on Wednesday. The eighth grader brought onto the campus the weapon in his backpack and showed multiple other students the firearm. While there was no reports of the student directly verbally threatening anyone else, he was alleging the gun was a much higher power firearm than a BB gun. The other students who had seen the gun immediately informed faculty members of the situation, who handed over the information to the local authorities.

The boy attended Salem Middle School, located in Lithonia, GA. The school did not indicate whether the boy had been expelled, but the school did reach out to the parents in a letter after the incident to reassure the parents of their student’s safety. Salem Middle School had an incident last year when another student brought a firearm to school.

The eighth grader was already being investigated for a different crime involving burglary when the school officials notified the police of the situation. The young man was then arrested and taken into police custody. There has not been any news released to the charges that have been filed against him.
